10 Keys to Overcoming Adversity

10 Keys to Overcoming Adversity

We don’t get to choose what adversity we must face in this life. If we could, there are many trials we would choose to avoid. What we can choose is how we respond to our problems. You can choose to be defeated by life’s difficulties, or you can become stronger by overcoming adversity. The choice is yours.

Overcoming Adversity by Building a winning mindset

If you’re tired of being undone by your trial and living in defeat, then read on to discover the 10 keys you need to build a winning mindset and start overcoming adversity.

#1 Think like a warrior.

Life is a battlefield, not a playground. You may feel defeated because you’re fighting in a battle you haven’t acknowledged. Expect trouble and be ready. Don’t come undone every time life gets hard.

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.
1 Peter 4:12

#2 Learn to be okay with unanswered questions.

Let wonder draw you nearer to God rather than send you fleeing in frustration. God is neither insecure or inadequate. He’s big enough to handle your questions.

How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?
Psalm 13:1-2

#3 Don’t stuff your doubt.

Let it out. Acknowledge doubts you have and surrender your uncertainty to a trustworthy God who works in ways beyond our understanding.

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:23

#4 Believe anyway.

Move beyond unsolvable mysteries by choosing to believe anyway even when God doesn’t make sense. It’s okay to be confused but still committed nonetheless.

Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God.
Romans 4:20

#5 Identify the real threat.

People and circumstances are never your true enemy. If you misidentify your enemy or deny that you even have one, you will lose the battle before it begins.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Ephesians 6:12

Be an overcomer! The road to victory is never easy but it's always worth it.

#6 Push back against your adversary.

Don’t let him beat you down without resistance. Learn to identify and fight back against his schemes. Recognize his deceit. Reject the lies. Replace them with God’s truth.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
1 Peter 5:8-9

#7 Get to know God better so you can trust Him more.

God can either be a celebrity you only know about, or He can be the One you know more intimately than anyone else. He goes before, behind, and beside you in every battle you face.

For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.
2 Samuel 22:32-33

#8 Know when to surrender.

The path to your greatest victory lies in an unconditional surrender to your unbeatable God. Relinquish your desire to direct what you can’t control anyway. God is much better at being God than you are anyway. Stop being a backseat driver.

You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay! Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, “You did not make me”? Can the pot say to the potter, “You know nothing”?
Isaiah 29:16

Relinquish your desire to direct what you can’t control anyway. God is much better at being God than you are anyway. Stop being a backseat driver.

#9 Embrace your worth.

You are a priceless treasure to Jesus. He may have found you in the bargain bin, but He insisted on paying full price for you because you are worth it to Him. Jesus will never return you. He has bought you with His own blood and torn up the receipt for your soul.

For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake.
1 Peter 1:18-19

#10 Remember you were created to be a Victor, not a victim.

Jesus offers a victorious life with your name on it. But you have to get up and claim it.

Stand firm, and you will win life.
Luke 21:19
